The human figure is endlessly diverse and fascinating to me. It evokes such an incredible range of emotions that are colored by our own body identity. Thus the human body will always elicit feelings of envy, shame, desire, tension, prejudice, love and excitement in our eyes. This is why I love sculpting the nude figure.
When you are observing a sculpture, you can have your own internally honest reaction with no need to worry about modesty, staring, judging or being judged. You can be free to feel your own thoughts and emotions. This is why my work at present reflects realism, to create a sense of empathy within the viewer. Any abstraction would only lead the viewer away from his/her own truest inner dialogue.
This is the driving force behind my work, to create and allow this dialogue within others and myself.
